Holiday Gift Ideas for Teens

Holiday Gift Guide: Teens. Holiday Gift Ideas for Teens

I realize there’s a huge difference between a 13-year old’s likes and those of an 18-year old, so rather than grasp at straws I based this gift guide on the preferences of someone right in between: my 15-year old cousin B.

Vera Wang Princess Sparkling Creme Perfume ($38) I would have been all over this 10 years ago. Alas, am unquestionably an adult now. Boo. :(

MAC Little Darlings 5 Pink Lipglass & Lustreglass ($29.50) Who wouldn’t love 5 mini lippies from MAC? This set has Fleur Delight, Song and Dance, and Magnetique Lipglass, and Flashmode and Little Vi Lustreglass. If the girl on your list isn’t the pink type, there are also sets in Coral and Neutral.

Sephora Ultimate Blockbuster ($48) For a young girl just starting out her collection, it’s a dream come true. 71 eyeshadow shades, 13 cream eyeshadow shades, 5 blushes, 1 compact powder, 60 lip glosses, one lip liner, one eyeliner, 4 brushes, and 3 sponge-tipped applicators. Whew.

Lancome Juicy Tubes Holiday Set ($39.50) Eight mini JTs in some pretty impressive shades, including several limited editions: Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Spring Fling, Juicy Tubes Jelly in Grand Cafe Creme Brulee (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Simmer, Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Fifth Avenue Frosting, Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Ginger Palace (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Maharani Jewels (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Pink Horizon, and Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Sun Bro.

L’Occitane Hand Indulgences Hand Cream Trio ($25) One each of Lavender, Cherry Blossom, and original Shea Butter, housed in a pretty little box. My cousin B loves these, and I’m sure she can’t be the only one!

Aquolina Pink Sugar Luxury Gift Set ($95) I’m not the biggest fan of Pink Sugar, but it’s a huge seller and this set would make a Pink Sugar enthusiast very, very happy. Includes 8.45 oz Perfumed Massage Oil, a 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray, a 3.38 oz Hair Perfume, a 8.45 oz Body Mousse, and a 6.76 oz Glossy Body Scrub. (Wait. Why does body scrub have to be glossy?)

Harajuku Lovers Solid Coffret ($60) These are just so cute, I want them for myself. Solid perfume versions of all five Harajuku Lovers fragrances: Love, Angel, Music, Baby, and G.

Philosophy The Cookie Exchange ($30) Four delicious 3-in-1’s from Philosophy: Chocolate Chip Cookie, Oatmeal Raisin, Snickerdoodle, and Sugar Cookie. Almost as good as the real thing!

Bare Escentuals Tutorials - The Rocker Eye ($38) 95% of teenagers at the mall seem to be sporting the black-rimmed eye! This kit from Bare Escentuals takes it up a notch and helps create a really gorgeous smokey rocker eye. Much, much better than a thick circle of Blacktrack, and more fun, too.

Amazing Makeup in Just 5 Minutes

Amazing Makeup in Just 5 Minutes! Sometimes you find yourself in a rush and it’s not always easy to finish up your makeup and have it look good as well. If you go to work or to school early in the morning, you might not want to spend 20 minutes on your makeup, but here’s some amazing looks you can do yourself in just under 5 minutes. Not only are these looks fast and easy, but they’ll have you look like a goddess- pronto!

If there is one thing I hate in the morning, it’s getting ready. I wish they would just invent a makeup mask that you can just put on your face, and ta-da! Well, they’ve probably already invented that and I just don’t know about it -so let me know if you’ve heard anything! Whether you’re a smokey eye fan or you just like the subtle look these following faces will have you screaming for joy either way. Keep reading to find out!

SIMPLE AND SHEERsheer and simple makeup

This look is for the makeup minimalist, and perfect for during the day. What you need is a rosy-pink blush and lip balm. For a dewy glow, dab a lip balm on cheeks, inner eye corners and lips of course. Next, fill out your brows and brush them upwards. With a simple, fresh look it’s crucial that your brows look perfect and groomed. And honestly, this won’t take you 5 minutes!

PRETTY IN PINKfuschia lipstick

If you’re a fan of bright, red lipstick, think about going a little different today. Instead, try a fuschia lipstick, which is more fun and playful anyways. Start by lining your lips with a magenta colored lip pencil to prevent color bleeding. Fuschia is a color that is not only versatile, but works great on girls with dark or fair hair. To balance out this bold look, swipe on a lengthening mascara and voila you have pretty in pink lips and to-die-for lashes.

THE NEW SMOKEY EYEsubtle smokey eye

If you’re a fan of the smokey eye, but don’t necessarily have time to do it in the morning, here’s the new and improved smokey eye on the rush! Bold, black colors can turn out horrible on bad days, so you have to step it down a notch and incorporate easier-to-wear colors, such as gray hues. Start by filling in the upper lashes with a gray pencil and drag out the line at the outer corners of the eye to create a slightly winged shape. Smudge a bit of gray shadow along the lower lash line and you don’t even need mascara to boot. You can call this look the “during the day smokey eye”.

VIOLETSviolet eyeshadow

Pretty purples and violets are the it colors this season, so it’s no wonder that they’re ending up on our eyes as well. To warm up the purple shadow, blend some peach blush with a hint of shimmer high on the cheekbone and up to the lids. If you put on too much, you can end up looking dated. A touch of iridescence gives skin a youthful luminosity. Instead of going for the traditional nude lip, try a salmon color for more excitement.

GOLDEN GIRLgold eyeshadow

This is another version of the smokey eye and it’s perfect for a rushed night out or whatever you’re in the mood for. Start by dotting black pencil between the lashes and line the lower inner rims. Then blend the liner with a slick black gloss for a super sexy effect. For the final touch, blend a dab of lip balm with a gold shadow and gild the inner eye corners. This will open up your eyes a thousand times!

NARS Holiday 2008 Sneak Peek

NARS Holiday 2008 Sneak Peek.

NARS Holiday 2008 collection

NARS, for me, equals the creme de la creme of high-end cosmetics. Naturally, I drool over select gems from their seasonal color stories. Here are my favorites from NARS Holiday 2008!

NARS Super Orgasm blush

NARS Super Orgasm Blush ($25)

I love a good coral blush, and the bit of shimmer as amped up in the “Super” version of NARS Orgasm blush doesn’t hurt. It reminds me a bit of Lancome Shimmer Coral Sunset Blush Subtil, which I still have a full pan of, so I may or may not need NARS Super Orgasm Blush in my collection. But, it’s lovely to look at, no?

NARS Jolie Poupee eyeshadow duo

NARS Jolie Poupee Eyeshadow Duo ($32)

Eee! Look at these purples! I own a few pans already but I must have this duo. LOVE.

NARS All Night Long lip gloss

NARS Lip Gloss in All Night Long ($24)

This gloss, described as a “dusty raspberry,” has got to be the most wearable-looking plum I’ve seen all season. Gimmeee.

Sephora Insider Exclusive: NARS Super Orgasm Blush

Sephora Insider Exclusive: NARS Super Orgasm Blush. You know how addicted I am to NARS Orgasm–the ever-so-slightly shimmery peachy-pink blush that flatters almost any complexion.  I just glanced at the Sephora website and saw that there’s a new covetable blush offering: NARS Super Orgasm, available exclusively at Sephora.com to Beauty Insiders.  It’s like the original Orgasm, but with even more shimmer…which equals an even sexier, softer, more beautilicious look.  Most gals over the age of 25 (or 12, whatever) shy away from shimmer, but when done correctly, it adds a gorgeous sheen to the complexion and looks very feminine.  (I’m also obsessed with Bare Escentuals Clear Radiance, my secret weapon makeup product which I never leave the house in the evenings without wearing.)

Top 10 Best Lipsticks to Try.

Top 10 Best Lipsticks to try. Whether you are going for a just-kissed look, a glittery pout, a lusciously red effect, or a satiny sheer shade, it would all depend on the lipstick that you are wearing. Take a look at our top ten favorite brands and shades of lipstick.

Best Lipstick - Top 10

10. NARS Frost Lipstick, Sexual Healing

101.jpg

We weren’t just attracted with the name of the shade of the NARS Frost Lipstick which is aptly called ‘Sexual Healing’. The NARS line of lipsticks all have lovely shades named Hot Voodoo, Kiss, Nouba and Klute. This particular shade is great for fair-skinned women who would like to have a subtle color and a slight shimmer to their lips.

9. Shiseido ‘The Makeup’ Perfecting Lipstick

91.jpg

Not only does this Shiseido shimmering lipstick give your lips that extra luster, color and pucker, but it also helps minimize the unevenness on the surface of your lips. If you want to have that pillow-lipped look sported by Angelina Jolie, this is the lipstick for you.

8. Almost Lipstick by Clinique

81.jpgThis brand was tagged as the Best Lipstick by InStyle magazine’s April issue. It is a combination of a lipstick and a lip gloss - which gives your lips a sheer shade and a moist, kissable look.

7. Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Semi-Matte Lipstick in Crushed Crimson

71.jpg

If your lips need to stay ultra-fresh all day, this Elizabeth Arden semi-matte lipstick is perfectly wearable and long-lasting. The crushed crimson color gives your lips that natural sheen and just the right shimmer.

6. Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Wine and Roses

61.jpg
When buying any brand of lipstick, it is important to look for that extra moisture factor because this is what gives your lips that kissable look. The wine and roses shade of the Maybelline Moisture Extreme lipstick is among the crowd favorite.

5. Max Factor Color Perfection Lipstick in Berry

lip5.jpg

Those who are tired of blood-red lip shades can have a breath of fresh air by wearing this charming berry shade of the Max Factor Color Perfection lipstick. This long lasting lipstick can last you through an entire busy day.

4. Christian Dior Rouge Lipstick in Marquise Red

41.jpg

Satin-smooth and almost bloody-red is what your lovely lips will look like when you use the Christian Dior Rouge Lipstick in Marquise Red. The formula is creamy, provides your lips with the extra moisture that it needs and the lipstick itself is comfortable to wear. What more can you ask for in a lipstick brand?

3. L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour in Raspberries

31.jpg

How can you ever get tired of the shades of different kinds of berries? This raspberry-tinted L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour looks great on almost anyone, giving your lips that lusciously red look.

2. Revlon Moon Drops Frost Moisture Frost Lipstick in Poppysilk Red

21.jpg

Everybody loves wearing Revlon lipstick because the color on your lips would stay there forever. This particular shade in poppysilk red is an all-time favorite, giving your lips that extra-puckered look, great crimson shade and extra moisturizers.

1. Chanel Super Hydrabase Lipstick Cashmere

lip1.jpg

Just like their line of clothing, the lipsticks offered by Chanel are ultra-classy and feminine. The Chanel Super Hydrabase lipstick in cashmere shade gives your lips that satiny finish for that just-kissed look.

Your lipstick colour says a lot about your mood and personality while reflecting the look that you want to portray. This is the reason why you should take the time in choosing the right shade and brand of lipstick to wear, to give yourself that model’s pout so grab that lipstick tube and pucker up!

The Orange Lip: 5 Ways to Wear It

The Orange Lip: 5 Ways to Wear It. I love tackling the hard-to-wear lip looks here on Beauty Addict; last fall’s post on How to Rock a Coral Lip was so much fun to write and even pushed me to be a little more adventurous with my own lip colors.

Now that Spring has arrived, let’s recall one of the biggest trends on the Spring runways: ORANGE lips. The look above is from Nanette Lepore; makeup artist Polly Osmond used MAC Morange lipstick mixed with MAC Lip Conditioner to create it.

I never thought I’d wear an orange lip, especially with my pale complexion, but truth be told I’ve worn each and every one of the five listed below over the past few days. There’s just something about extreme heat that makes the orange lippie seem so fresh…and tropical.

Looking to try it out yourself? Here are five suggestions, ranging from tame tangerine to outrageous orange:

Super Sheer: Lancome Juicy Gelee in Orange Burst
Barely there color, just a hint of orange, but lots and lots of shine. Just be careful and store this little jelly jar upright; left sideways or upside down, the gloss will quickly migrate into the cap.

Glossy Shimmer: MAC Lipglass in Pink Grapefruit
This gloss was a limited edition item in last year’s holiday collection, but now it’s back! Pink Grapefruit has made a comeback in limited edition packaging (an orange cap!) as part of the new Neo Sci-Fi collection. The picture really doesn’t do it justice; in reality it’s truly orange. It’s sheer enough to work with a lot of looks; a nice little pop of tangerine to brighten up your lips.

High Power Gloss: NARS Lip Lacquer in Capucine
Capucine is borderline neon, but can be used in various intensities. A dab of it creates a sheer, softly glossed pout, while a full, generous application with a lip brush yields super-bright color and vinyl shine.

Matte Pencil: Shiseido Automatic Lip Crayon in LC5 Orange
A perfect cool-weather orange, this had been knocking around my makeup bag for months before I finally mustered up the courage to try it. I wore it with a grey eye and grey-and-black clothes, and it was AMAZING. For the hotter months, mix with a little gloss or balm to soften it up (matte lips just don’t work for me in the summer, do you agree?). Looks great on pale-skinned lasses and dark-skinned beauties alike - it’s bold enough to stand out, but not so loud that it looks garish.

Classic Lipstick: MAC Electro
Another one from Neo Sci-Fi, Electro is a classic bright orange that looks scary in the tube, but is surprisingly wearable. I’m actually wearing it right now, although when I first looked at it I thought I wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Wrong! Looks amazing with a tan and a dewy complexion. Electro is sold out online (when I originally wrote this it was still available) but can probably be tracked down in stores or on eBay. It’s worth it!

Wet n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer & Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation

Wet n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer & Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation. If you are anything like me, you cannot leave the house unless you have *something* on your face. It doesn’t have to be a full fledge of makeup, but as long as I have powder on, then I can at least face the world. In the summer it’s key for me to find something weightless so that my face isn’t melting once I hit the outdoors.

Ultimate-Sheer-Tinted-Moisturizer

Wet n Wild’s Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer and their Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation are not only weightless, but give you a more natural look. For the Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer I used 182/Natural and for the powder foundation I used 272/Medium. Both blended perfectly and seamlessly with my skin tone. The tinted moisturizer glides on smoothly (I used Billy B’s Foundation Paintbrush) and the mineral powder foundation goes on without having that usual “shine” that comes with a mineral powder.

You can’t beat the price either, the tinted moisturizer is $3.99 and the powder foundation is $4.99

Tarte cosmetics + BriteSmile = enbrightenmint

Tarte cosmetics + BriteSmile = enbrightenmint

Speaking of bright lips for summer, tarte cosmetics and BriteSmile have teamed up to bring you enbrightenmint, a tooth whitener & lip gloss. Just like the set up for tarte’s double ended lip glosses, enbrightenmint contains BriteSmile whitening on one end and tarte’s bright lip gloss on the other. Not only will your lips shine, your teeth will too.

enbrightenmint tarte britesmile

I had the opportunity to try out enbrightenmint in radiant red. I was pretty nervous since I know that reds are just not my color. However, this is not a deep red, in fact I would say it is more like a hot pink once you’ve brushed it on. However, both colors have blue undertones to make your teeth look even whiter.

The BriteSmile tooth whitener is said to whiten your teeth by up to 8 shades in 2 weeks when using it once a day. tarte’s lip gloss is sinfully healthy for you with multiple fruit extracts like acai, goji berry and pomegranate.

This product is tricky to use, as you would assume all you do is twist and the product will come out. However, the key is to making sure the moveable part in the center of the pen is either switched right or left depending on which portion of the product you want to dispense. Unfortunately I found out the hard way when I couldn’t figure out why the BriteSmile was not coming out until I opened the cap to the gloss and it poured out from the cap all over me. Fun times.

The gloss is as minty in taste and scent as the BriteSmile and the color does look very pretty on. I know I have some tarte addicts for readers, so please let me know if you’ve tried it yourself.
