The Orange Lip: 5 Ways to Wear It

The Orange Lip: 5 Ways to Wear It. I love tackling the hard-to-wear lip looks here on Beauty Addict; last fall’s post on How to Rock a Coral Lip was so much fun to write and even pushed me to be a little more adventurous with my own lip colors.

Now that Spring has arrived, let’s recall one of the biggest trends on the Spring runways: ORANGE lips. The look above is from Nanette Lepore; makeup artist Polly Osmond used MAC Morange lipstick mixed with MAC Lip Conditioner to create it.

I never thought I’d wear an orange lip, especially with my pale complexion, but truth be told I’ve worn each and every one of the five listed below over the past few days. There’s just something about extreme heat that makes the orange lippie seem so fresh…and tropical.

Looking to try it out yourself? Here are five suggestions, ranging from tame tangerine to outrageous orange:

Super Sheer: Lancome Juicy Gelee in Orange Burst
Barely there color, just a hint of orange, but lots and lots of shine. Just be careful and store this little jelly jar upright; left sideways or upside down, the gloss will quickly migrate into the cap.

Glossy Shimmer: MAC Lipglass in Pink Grapefruit
This gloss was a limited edition item in last year’s holiday collection, but now it’s back! Pink Grapefruit has made a comeback in limited edition packaging (an orange cap!) as part of the new Neo Sci-Fi collection. The picture really doesn’t do it justice; in reality it’s truly orange. It’s sheer enough to work with a lot of looks; a nice little pop of tangerine to brighten up your lips.

High Power Gloss: NARS Lip Lacquer in Capucine
Capucine is borderline neon, but can be used in various intensities. A dab of it creates a sheer, softly glossed pout, while a full, generous application with a lip brush yields super-bright color and vinyl shine.

Matte Pencil: Shiseido Automatic Lip Crayon in LC5 Orange
A perfect cool-weather orange, this had been knocking around my makeup bag for months before I finally mustered up the courage to try it. I wore it with a grey eye and grey-and-black clothes, and it was AMAZING. For the hotter months, mix with a little gloss or balm to soften it up (matte lips just don’t work for me in the summer, do you agree?). Looks great on pale-skinned lasses and dark-skinned beauties alike - it’s bold enough to stand out, but not so loud that it looks garish.

Classic Lipstick: MAC Electro
Another one from Neo Sci-Fi, Electro is a classic bright orange that looks scary in the tube, but is surprisingly wearable. I’m actually wearing it right now, although when I first looked at it I thought I wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Wrong! Looks amazing with a tan and a dewy complexion. Electro is sold out online (when I originally wrote this it was still available) but can probably be tracked down in stores or on eBay. It’s worth it!

2008 Beauty Trend Neon Nails

Filed under: 2008 Summer Beauty Trends, Beauty — Tags: , — admin @ 10:19 am

2008 Beauty Trend Neon Nails. This summer nails are brighter than ever: they are not only black, white and read, they become NEON. But I am ready to bet that not everybody will like neon nails and what is more, feel comfortable while wearing it. That’s why you can choose something like yellow neon. One more point, don’t spend sums of money on nail polish from popular and expensive brand, buy something you like but let it be a bit cheaper.

More and more celebrities are following this trend, so why not follow it as well?

Wet n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer & Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation

Wet n Wild Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer & Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation. If you are anything like me, you cannot leave the house unless you have *something* on your face. It doesn’t have to be a full fledge of makeup, but as long as I have powder on, then I can at least face the world. In the summer it’s key for me to find something weightless so that my face isn’t melting once I hit the outdoors.

Ultimate-Sheer-Tinted-Moisturizer

Wet n Wild’s Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer and their Ultimate Minerals Powder Foundation are not only weightless, but give you a more natural look. For the Ultimate Sheer Tinted Moisturizer I used 182/Natural and for the powder foundation I used 272/Medium. Both blended perfectly and seamlessly with my skin tone. The tinted moisturizer glides on smoothly (I used Billy B’s Foundation Paintbrush) and the mineral powder foundation goes on without having that usual “shine” that comes with a mineral powder.

You can’t beat the price either, the tinted moisturizer is $3.99 and the powder foundation is $4.99

Tarte cosmetics + BriteSmile = enbrightenmint

Tarte cosmetics + BriteSmile = enbrightenmint

Speaking of bright lips for summer, tarte cosmetics and BriteSmile have teamed up to bring you enbrightenmint, a tooth whitener & lip gloss. Just like the set up for tarte’s double ended lip glosses, enbrightenmint contains BriteSmile whitening on one end and tarte’s bright lip gloss on the other. Not only will your lips shine, your teeth will too.

enbrightenmint tarte britesmile

I had the opportunity to try out enbrightenmint in radiant red. I was pretty nervous since I know that reds are just not my color. However, this is not a deep red, in fact I would say it is more like a hot pink once you’ve brushed it on. However, both colors have blue undertones to make your teeth look even whiter.

The BriteSmile tooth whitener is said to whiten your teeth by up to 8 shades in 2 weeks when using it once a day. tarte’s lip gloss is sinfully healthy for you with multiple fruit extracts like acai, goji berry and pomegranate.

This product is tricky to use, as you would assume all you do is twist and the product will come out. However, the key is to making sure the moveable part in the center of the pen is either switched right or left depending on which portion of the product you want to dispense. Unfortunately I found out the hard way when I couldn’t figure out why the BriteSmile was not coming out until I opened the cap to the gloss and it poured out from the cap all over me. Fun times.

The gloss is as minty in taste and scent as the BriteSmile and the color does look very pretty on. I know I have some tarte addicts for readers, so please let me know if you’ve tried it yourself.

L’Oreal Vive Pro Hydra Gloss Moisturising Shampoo

“L’Oreal Vive Pro Hydra Gloss Moisturising Shampoo”
Reveiw on New L’Oreal Vive Pro Hydra Gloss Moisturising Shampoo.

RRP: $4.99 for 13oz; €4.60 for 250ml

–What does the promo say?–
“Omega-moisture complex infuses deep moisture & shine. Before Using Hydra Gloss Shampoo: Hair may feel very dry or dull from the distressing effects of the weather and over-processing. After Using Hydra Gloss Shampoo: Hair is deeply conditioned with essential nutrients and shines with a high gloss finish. Recommended by the hair experts at L’Oreal, Hydra Gloss with omega-moisture complex containing omega 3 & 6, royal jelly and olive oil, adds advanced moisturizers and essential nutrients to intensely condition hair. Gently cleanses while injecting intensive moisturizers. Deeply penetrates hair for lasting moisturization. Leaves hair soft, shiny and touchable.”

–Packaging–
I only tried this on a trial basis, but what I can say is that the packaging is the same as the European one (white and gold, with the royal jelly motif), which I quite like. The package being sold Stateside is the one my boyfriend preferred when asked: it’s a simpler, more modern design. Ipoddy. Hmm. Must be a boy thing.

–Usage–
Lather into wet hair, rinse, and repeat as necessary.

–Appearance–
The shampoo itself is very yellow (though not neon, thank God), viscous, and gloopy, but not unpleasant. Equally thankfully, the lather is white and no residue is visible in the hair after use.

–Scent–
Strangely, this smells of coconut, despite there being nothing whatsoever coconutty or coconut-related in the ingredients list. Slightly sweet too. I like the smell, but find it slightly disconcerting that it doesn’t smell more of honey, especially given the lack of coconut in this product generally.

–Lather–
Excellent, and not very much of this product is needed to achieve that, though perhaps more than with a more expensive brand. The size of the circle made when you curl your index finger round to meet your thumb on the same hand probably about covers it.

–Washing it out–
Easy as. No problems here.

–How does your hair look and feel afterwards?–
The smoothness is back! And since that’s definitely the main aim of this shampoo, it gets a thumbs up from me purely on that basis. Does make it frizzy or flyaway either, and a small bonus is that it really seems to bring out the best of my natural blonde hair colour. These effects are consistent throughout the day: definitely no crazy flyawayness by evening.

–Value for money–
At less than £5, this is really quite ingenious considering the effectiveness of the product. Now all I have to hope for is that they bring it out in the UK…

Senna Cosmetics Brow Kit and Texturizer

Senna Cosmetics Brow Kit and Texturizer. I have no brows. When I was 19, my mom forced me to get permanent brows tattooed in because she thought it was bad luck to have such little brows. So now I am left with faded blueish hued brows because I have such little hair there. This is my biggest challenge when I do my make up. I don’t have ends so I have to add them in with powder but the problem is, it’s obvious that that part was added in because there is no hair. I also have no definition to my brows so I don’t even know where to begin to shape them. Last week, I met my brow savior, Eugenia Weston, owner and founder of Senna Cosmetics. She is the FIRST brow guru in Hollywood! Her clients include

kellybrows_before.jpg BEFORE

kellybrows_after.jpg AFTER
Angelina Joie, Bette Midler, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Paula Abdul, Elizabeth Berkley, Tori Spelling and many many more. Her line is used in shows like Heroes and Ugly Betty. And you know all those brow stencils that are everywhere? Hello, she developed it 15 years ago and is not even credited for it because she does not believe in advertising and PR. Well, too bad, I went in there and am now her biggest advocate whether she likes it or not. She likes to be the best secret in town because she believes in personalized service. I love her, she gave me eyebrows. Seriously, I think she possesses magical powers or something. First she used the stencil that comes in the brow kit (comes with 4 different stencils and a palette of 3 brow powders with 2 brushes). This pretty much takes care of the hardest part of doing brows for me because it gives me the general shape. Then she uses this most amazing brow wax to add more “hair” especially to the ends where I am missing brows. More powder is added on top of the wax which now has texture and it actually looks like hair! No more obvious point of delineation!!! My entire brows blend in beautifully, my brows look fuller which makes all the difference in the world. The pictures are a little deceptive because they are so closeup and washed out. In person, I am telling you, the difference is mind blowing!! The brow kit does take a little practice to perfect but I am willing to put in the time and energy for perfect brows. The Brow Kit is $42 and Brow Definer Wax is $18. Her entire line is amazing which I will review separately.

NARS Fall 2008 Makeup Collection

NARS’ Fall 2008 collection is all about “intrigue and sophistication.” That’s nice and all, but I’m just glad they didn’t use Lydia Hearst for the promo shots this time.

Click the image to blow it up and see close-ups of all the new shades. The standout this season is the much-anticipated Dolce Vita blush. Now that NARS has exhausted the possibilities for Orgasm (blush, lip gloss, Multiple, nail polish), it looks like Dolce Vita is the new blockbuster shade. Funny that it’s taken the opposite path of Orgasm; it started as a lipstick, then became a velvet matte lip pencil, and now a blush. Will you be snapping up Dolce Vita in its new powder form?

I’m also loving Senorita lipstick and Female Trouble lip gloss. This collection will launch on the NARS website in just five days (July 15), so you’d better get your picks lined up now! Details on all the shades:

Eyes

  • Fez Single Eyeshadow velvety cocoa
  • Isolde Duo Eyeshadow frosted ginger & shimmering copper
  • Cordura Duo Eyeshadow shimmering warm brown & shimmering sooty dark brown

Lips

  • Beautiful Liar Lipstick sheer spiced coral
  • Señorita Lipstick sheer shimmering cherry blossom
  • Female Trouble Lipgloss lilac mauve

Cheeks

  • Dolce Vita Blush dusty rose

Nails

  • Rebel Yell dusty pomegranate

Kat Von D For Sephora

When it comes to makeup brushes, I have three criteria: I like them to be soft, I like them to be well-shaped, and I like them to be pretty.

This is why my brush collection consists of Smashbox brushes with their bright, shiny red handles, and oodles of silver and gold handled MAC holiday brushes.

If you’re looking to add to your own collection, I submit for your consideration these lovely brushes from the Kat Von D for Sephora collection.

These five eye brushes sport glossy black handles decorated with silver stenciled roses (Kat tattoo inspired, natch). I’ve generally found the Sephora brand brushes to be pretty good in terms of quality, so you’ll be in good shape with these.

The Kat Eye Brush Set ($48) comes in a case with the same silver rose pattern, and holds these five brushes:

  • angled eyeshadow brush
  • eyeshadow blending brush
  • angled brow brush
  • flat eyeliner brush
  • smudge brush (I have a soft spot for smudge brushes, I love them!)
