Paris Hilton Shows Us Black Ruffles and Fringes

Paris Hilton Shows Us Black Ruffles and Fringes. At the Victoria Secret Fashion show Paris shows us two trends black ruffles and fringes which can be quite a dangerous combination. Did Paris pull the look off? Surprisingly yes! If she wore the dress in any color I don’t think It would have worked but since its black it created instant sexapeal without looking over the top. Sure she shows us a low neckline and a low back ouch, but once again it works because of her small size. I’m also loving her headband. A plus for style.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians and their Fashion Sense

Keeping Up With The Kardashians and their Fashion Sense. Spotted the Kardashians sisters Kloe and the infamous Kim out and about in Melrose. Kim sports a very tight sleek pony that is oh so fab while Kloe shoes us her ankle bootie boots. I love Kims sweater paired with black leggings, boots and a white tank. It showcases a very fashionable and classic look. Both girls get a A plus for style.

Solange Knowles Rocking Latex Leggings

Solange Knowles Rocking Latex Leggings. Solange Knowles at the Starlaunch Finale concert hosted by Cosmopolitan magazine rocks the latex leggings trend. We all know that Solange is known for rocking some pretty interesting ensambles. She can wear some pretty scary stuff sometimes and this sweater paired with the latex leggings is definitely on the strange side. On the other hand her makeup looks flawless she looks so much like Beyonce and her latext leggings rock!

Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale Shopping on Black Friday

Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale Shopping on Black Friday. Who would think that Ashley and Vanessa would do their own shopping on black Friday? None the less they did and I wonder what they brought? Ashley wore a classic all black sweater,  skinny jeans and tall black boots. I love this look and its perfect for shopping. While Vanessa showcased a bright red lipstick to match her shirt. I’m digging the shirt but the red lips need to go. I’m also loving her black boots and handbag. Vanessa gets a B plus on style while Ashley gets an A.

Holiday Dresses

Holiday Dresses. Another excuse to buy another dress for another occasion, when it’s not really necessary, especially now with the recession… but hey, let’s have a look anyway.

& we’re going for ideas,
not prices. Moving along, my little obsession continues with all things white/ivory/beige, within that realm of things, and of course greys and blacks; I thought the following dresses were rather interesting. Something different from the usual holiday dresses you see hung on rack after rack, store after store. Let’s start off with a Missoni scarf dress.

I love the back, and especially the subtle pattern, and how the dress has been hemmed. You see a lot of scarf dresses, but this one has some character.

And then after BG’s talk of her Rebecca Taylor dress, I had to go find some more because her dress was so beautiful! Simple, but so elegant! The perfect black dress.

It’s definitely a piece you could dress up and down. Versatility is always a good thing. I can just imagine how flowing the material would look.

Above, a dress by Miu Miu. Usually I see things by Miu Miu and I get excited, then after a while I don’t really like them. However I like this one, and it kind of reminds me of an extremely toned down version of what BG and HG called the “S” dress in a previous post. I love the pleated bottom.

And then there is Chloe. How cute! I have a dress that has a veil layer on top similar to this, and I absolutely adore it. However mine is all black, so this change hue is something I’m drawn to.

And then there is Vera Wang.

Maybe a little too generic and confined? I’m not entirely sure. But beading detail is always an extravagance one can indulge in. Something more grand and sophisticated than sequins and glitter.

So maybe this year, opt for softer tones? Whatever suits your fancy, this was just one idea. There shall be more to come!

MAC Hello Kitty Collection

MAC Hello Kitty Collection. Guess what, ladies?  The Cut mentioned months ago that a MAC and Hello Kitty collection may have been in the works and Women’s Wear Daily just officially broke that the new MAC collaboration with this cute kitty will hit stores and counters in the United States on February 12, 2009!!

What’s even bigger is that our very own Jeannie was able to get a sneak peak at the collection a couple of days ago and hear all about it straight from top MAC collaborators, James Gager (Sr. VP and Creative Director), Jennifer Balbier (Sr. VP of Product Development) and Gordon Espinet (VP of Makeup Artistry).

mac-hello-kitty-promo.jpg

But while we can’t spill all the beans on the goodies she saw just yet, here’s a first look into what you’ll see from the collection straight from the WWD article online:

The Hello Kitty offerings fall into two collections: the Hello Kitty Colour Collection and the more high-end Hello Kitty Kouture.

The bulk of the items are in the former category: six shades of lipstick with names like Fashion Mews and Strayin’, each $14; six Lipglass shades, each $14; and two tinted lip conditioners, $14.50 each; two eye shadow palettes, which each contain four shades and retail for $38; two shades of pigment are $19.50 each, and two Reflects Glitter stockkeeping units — one blue, one pink — are $17.50 each. Four Glitter Eye Liners, each $16.50, two shades of Beauty Powder, each $22; three shades of nail polish, each $11; a black mascara, $12, and false lashes, $12, round out the color offerings. Shades range from pinks and turquoises to lavenders and greens.

Hello Kitty Kouture is intended to be the high end of the collection. Two shades of Dazzleglass, each $28, each feature a reusable silver chain pendant with Hello Kitty outlined in white Swarovski crystals on black with a pink crystal bow. Sheer Mystery Powder, $90 and available in three shades, is packaged in a silver powder compact with Hello Kitty outlined in white Swarovski crystals with a pink crystal bow on a black background.

Hello Kitty Colour Collection will be available in stores and on counters while Hello Kitty Kouture will be available at MAC stores and at maccosmetics.com only.   So mark your calendars, ladies, because this collection might be an even bigger hit than MAC’s Barbie collabo from two years ago.

Get the Look: Alicia Keys at the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball

Get the Look: Alicia Keys at the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball

Alicia Keys rocked space-age silver eyes at the 5th annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball on November 13. She’s a co-founder of this charity. Go Alicia!

Celebrity makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff created Alicia’s dramatic-yet-sophisticated look for the event. “I wanted to make Alicia look a little more sophisticated and grown compared to years before,” said Sheriff.

Here’s Ashunta Sheriff’s breakdown of Alicia’s look:

“I made her complexion a radiant and creamy beige using DermaBlend Quick Stix in Natural to conceal eyes and then sprayed DiorSkin AirFlash Spray Foundation in 400 for a flawless finish. Then I set makeup with Black Opal Invisible Oil Blotting Control Powder.

I wanted to focus on her eyes since she would be performing for two hours so I used Dior Eye Show in White Disco as a base, then layered using the Dior 5-Colour Eye Palette in Moonlight.

I finished the look with three coats of DiorShow Iconic Mascara in black and Urban Decay Liquid Liner in Oil Slick. I used an entire pack of Shu Uemura’s individual lashes to create volume and length. Finally, I used Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Linen Beige on the lips.”

Holiday Gift Ideas for Teens

Holiday Gift Guide: Teens. Holiday Gift Ideas for Teens

I realize there’s a huge difference between a 13-year old’s likes and those of an 18-year old, so rather than grasp at straws I based this gift guide on the preferences of someone right in between: my 15-year old cousin B.

Vera Wang Princess Sparkling Creme Perfume ($38) I would have been all over this 10 years ago. Alas, am unquestionably an adult now. Boo. :(

MAC Little Darlings 5 Pink Lipglass & Lustreglass ($29.50) Who wouldn’t love 5 mini lippies from MAC? This set has Fleur Delight, Song and Dance, and Magnetique Lipglass, and Flashmode and Little Vi Lustreglass. If the girl on your list isn’t the pink type, there are also sets in Coral and Neutral.

Sephora Ultimate Blockbuster ($48) For a young girl just starting out her collection, it’s a dream come true. 71 eyeshadow shades, 13 cream eyeshadow shades, 5 blushes, 1 compact powder, 60 lip glosses, one lip liner, one eyeliner, 4 brushes, and 3 sponge-tipped applicators. Whew.

Lancome Juicy Tubes Holiday Set ($39.50) Eight mini JTs in some pretty impressive shades, including several limited editions: Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Spring Fling, Juicy Tubes Jelly in Grand Cafe Creme Brulee (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Simmer, Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Fifth Avenue Frosting, Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Ginger Palace (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Maharani Jewels (limited edition), Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Pink Horizon, and Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Sun Bro.

L’Occitane Hand Indulgences Hand Cream Trio ($25) One each of Lavender, Cherry Blossom, and original Shea Butter, housed in a pretty little box. My cousin B loves these, and I’m sure she can’t be the only one!

Aquolina Pink Sugar Luxury Gift Set ($95) I’m not the biggest fan of Pink Sugar, but it’s a huge seller and this set would make a Pink Sugar enthusiast very, very happy. Includes 8.45 oz Perfumed Massage Oil, a 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray, a 3.38 oz Hair Perfume, a 8.45 oz Body Mousse, and a 6.76 oz Glossy Body Scrub. (Wait. Why does body scrub have to be glossy?)

Harajuku Lovers Solid Coffret ($60) These are just so cute, I want them for myself. Solid perfume versions of all five Harajuku Lovers fragrances: Love, Angel, Music, Baby, and G.

Philosophy The Cookie Exchange ($30) Four delicious 3-in-1’s from Philosophy: Chocolate Chip Cookie, Oatmeal Raisin, Snickerdoodle, and Sugar Cookie. Almost as good as the real thing!

Bare Escentuals Tutorials - The Rocker Eye ($38) 95% of teenagers at the mall seem to be sporting the black-rimmed eye! This kit from Bare Escentuals takes it up a notch and helps create a really gorgeous smokey rocker eye. Much, much better than a thick circle of Blacktrack, and more fun, too.

First Lady Fashion Gown Suggestions for Michelle Obama

First Lady Fashion Gown Suggestions for Michelle Obama. It seems everyone is waiting with bated breath to see what Michelle Obama will wear to the Inaugural Balls (and inauguration itself). Designers are in a frenzy and fashionistas can’t wait to see what she will chose. It almost makes you forget times are very tough. And who couldn’t use a little escape from all the doom and gloom?

According to an expose in today’s WWD, the designer big guns are finding Michelle to be more of a challenege to dress, since her chic is more lowercase democratic than was Jackie Kennedy’s. Throughout the campaign, Obama avoided all major names except Narciso Rodriguez, while showing a penchant for Chicago designers (Maria Pinto), young types (Thakoon; Jason Wu) and cost-conscious labels (Donna Ricco; J. Crew).

Nevertheless, every designer yearns to dress Michelle, who could raise the profile of American fashion around the world. WWD asked various designers for ball gown sketches. Some denied the request, but thankfully many provided their ideas for the perfect ‘coming out’ gown.

Here are some…

Monique_lhuillier_3
Monique Lhuillier - I had to start with my personal favorite. This would look amazing on Mrs. Obama.

Acrolina_herrera
Carolina Herrera

Badgley_mischka
Badgley Mischka - this looks hard to move nevertheless to dance in.

Bestsey_johnson
Betsey Johnson - You gotta love her! So over-the-top and patriotic! Um, no.

Chanel_karl_lagerfeld
Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel

Christian_lacroix
Christian Lacroix - this actually scares me.

Dvf
Diane von Furstenberg - Lovely, but not grand enough for the occassion.

Marc_jacobs
Marc Jacobs - dare I say I don’t like the color palette for her?

Michael_kors
Michael Kors - understated and expected.

Oscar_de_la_renta
Oscar de la Renta

Peter_som
Peter Som

I’m hoping for the Lhuillier! The color and design are on the money.
