prescriptives fall dimensions cheeks and eyes

prescriptives fall dimensions cheeks and eyes.

#fullpost {display:none;}Prescriptives Fall Dimensions Cheeks and Eyes ($35) is one of those great universal products that covers everything from soup to nuts.

Er…I mean…eyes to cheeks.

You can sweep a brush over all of the colors and apply it to your face…kinda as you would a bronzer.

Or, you can just use it on your cheeks as a nice pop of natural color and subtle shimmer.

Or, you can use your smaller eye brushes and apply it as you would an eyeshadow.

I actually tried it as a blush, concentrating on the all over sweep of color and adding just the darker shade to the left as a final finish.

Really pretty in a natural-earthy-glowy-bohemian kind of way.

Perfect for when you don’t want too much color, or you want to play up other features…like lips or eyes.

For me though, I suggest adding just final sweep of gloss…in a color similar to their Colorscope Lip Gloss in Sporty ($18)…and a swipe or two of mascara.

Throw your hair back in a ponytail (man I need to grow out my hair) and you have achieved casual chic.

Done.

CHANEL Intense Volume And Curl Mascara

Filed under: Beauty, Makeup — Tags: — admin @ 12:41 pm

CHANEL Intense Volume And Curl Mascara.

Every time, when there is a new mascara launched or to be launched, I just can’t resist to test it! This time it is the CHANEL Intense Volume And Curl Mascara that I’m anxious for.

Since I’m neither bestowed with full nor with long lashes, but rather with lashes that are stiff and straight, it is so hard for me to find THE mascara that works. Unfortunately, most mascaras simply add extra-weight onto the lashes, instead of making them staying curled.

I’ll let you know, if this mascara works or not, as soon as I’ve tested it! So, stay tuned, ladies!

CHANEL’S PRODUCT INFORMATION
Captivating volume and voluptuous curves give lashes the fullest advantage - with clump-free, smudge-proof separation. Innovative six-sided brush ensures dramatic results.

Fall 2008 Makeup Trends

Filed under: Beauty, Makeup — Tags: — admin @ 9:34 am

Fall 2008 Makeup Trends. It’s about that time when I’ve reluctantly accepted that fall is right around the corner and it is time to switch up my makeup bag. I am a follower of trends by nature, but I have to adapt them to my personal liking. For example, red and berry lips are hot for fall 2008, but so not hot on me! Here some fall 2008 makeup trends (according to Harper’s Bazaar) that I’m hot about:

.gallery { margin: auto; } .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } .gallery img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; }

  • My love for smoky eyes in fall (and all year ’round) will never die. I turn to Lancome Statuesque eyeshadow for a matte black-out effect and amp it up with a few coats of Lash Blast or Rilastil Volumizing mascara.
  • I have an all or next-to-nothing approach to wearing makeup, so barely there nudes such as my tube of Revlon Shiny Sheers lip color in Sheer Honey Drizzle will reappear in my makeup bag next to my eyelash curler and RAW Natural Beauty Mineral Glow to highlight my skin.
  • The cat eye is a makeup trend for fall 2008 as well as a classic and a personal favorite of mine. I wrote an article recently on how to do cat eye makeup using Lancome Artliner or Wet ‘n Wild liquid eyeliner

review: MAC Cleanse Off Oil

Filed under: Beauty, Makeup — Tags: — admin @ 10:30 pm

review: MAC Cleanse Off Oil.

MAC Cleanse Off Oil is an industry-strength oil-based makeup remover that’s gentle on the skin.

if you’ve ever received a professional facial, you know that the esthetician cleanses your face twice. in my training, we used Dermologica’s Pre-Cleanse before following with the appropriate cleanser. i loved that product (more on that soon).

the experience i have had with MAC Cleanse Off Oil has been similar to that of Pre-Cleanse, which is nothing but pleasant. this botanically formulated product contains oils of olive fruit, evening primrose, jojoba seed and is absolutely 100% mineral-oil free! unlike Olay’s Mascara + Makeup Remover, it leaves no oily residue behind– so nice!

the pump dispenser makes this cleanser easy to use and i love that it has a very faint scent. my skin receives truly fabulous double cleanse when i use this!

review: L’Oreal Bare Naturale Mascara

review: L’Oreal Bare Naturale Mascara.

if your look is more natural or you have days that makeup is the last thing you want to put on, consider L’Oreal’s newest mascara, Bare Naturale.
this mineral-based mascara goes on smoothly and ever so delicately to define and give your lashes added color and length.
when i used this, i was impressed with how soft my lashes were after it dried. i knew i was wearing mascara, but i could also feel a huge difference in how my lashes were to the touch.

i also gave this mascara to some friends, and one of them doesn’t wear makeup (gasp!– but i still love her), and she loved it! “it is the perfect mascara for my lashes”, she said. “it makes my eyes appear brighter, but doesn’t look fake”. another thing she loved: it came off easily when she washed her face.

i found this as well, and actually took a day (when i didn’t leave the house) to purposely only wear this mascara and some lipgloss. strange for me….but on the up side, i did notice how natural-but-better my lashes looked!

MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder Beauty Product Review

Filed under: Beauty, Makeup — Tags: — admin @ 7:22 pm

MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder Beauty Product Review.

What’s my go-to pressed powder? It’s MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder. Available in a wide variety of shades, this jet-milled, smooth powder never looks cakey and sets foundation to the perfect finish.

Worn alone, it’s not really going to cover much, but yet this product has the perfect amount of pigmentation to help supplement your foundation to give your skin a flawless look. (It also has enough pigmentation that if you don’t have the right color, you’ll be able to tell).

Once applied, this powder helps prevent smudges and absorbs oil (but you still may need to blot if your prone to oiliness). It doesn’t settle into pores, but rather creates a velvety finish on skin that seems to hide pores. Marvelous!

Trend: Driving Gloves

Filed under: Fashion, Fashion News — Tags: — admin @ 3:14 pm

Trend: Driving Gloves. So while the most recent runways are showing you what will be hot next spring, I wanted to clue you into a trend idea that true modern fashionistas can’t help but rock:
driving gloves.
Though the accessory debuted in the Fall 2007 runway shows, the style has been quietly acquired by some of fashion’s most forward trensetters due to it’s rock & roll, daredevil chic aesthetic:
Victoria Beckham has been spied wearing leather driving gloves with anything from red carpet gowns…
…to jeans and blazers.
And fashionista Rihanna wore a pair with a flouncy dress:
…accessorized with chains and a peek-a-boo bra.
Even guys get in on it, with Kanye pairing his with a white jacket….

Vogue India August 2008: Tacky or Creative Inspiration?

Vogue India August 2008: Tacky or Creative Inspiration?

Vogue is at it again….the first edition dedicated to black models was like crack to the urban fashionista—if she/he could get their glammy little hands on a coveted copy.  I don’t think people of Indian descent will be running down the newsstands to grab the latest issue of Vogue India.  Apparently, the editors thought it would be a great idea to put ridiculously expensive gear on the poorest of folk….yeah….that went over really well….  Here’s an excerpt and some pics below the cut:

A family of three squeezes onto a motorbike for their daily commute, the mother riding without a helmet and sides

addle in the traditional Indian way — except that she has a Hermès Birkin bag (usually more than $10,000, if you can find one) prominently displayed on her wrist.

Elsewhere, a toothless barefoot man holds a Burberry umbrella (about $200).

Welcome to the new India — at least as Vogue sees it.

Vogue India’s August issue presented a 16-page vision of supple handbags, bejeweled clutches and status-symbol umbrellas, modeled not by runway stars or the wealthiest fraction of Indian society who can actually afford these accessories, but by average Indian people.

Perhaps not surprisingly, not everyone in India was amused.

The editorial spread was “not just tacky but downright distasteful” said Kanika Gahlaut, a columnist for the daily newspaper Mail Today that is based here, who denounced it as an “example of vulgarity.”

Vogue’s response:

Vogue India editor Priya Tanna’s message to critics of the August shoot: “Lighten up,” she said in a telephone interview. Vogue is about realizing the “power of fashion” she said, and the shoot was saying that “fashion is no longer a rich man’s privilege. Anyone can carry it off and make it look beautiful,” she said.

“You have to remember with fashion, you can’t take it that seriously,” Ms. Tanna said. “We weren’t trying to make a political statement or save the world,” she said.

What do you think?  Insensitive or insightful?

Finds of 2008 Fall Fashion Week

Filed under: Fashion, Fashion News — Tags: — admin @ 9:06 am

Finds of 2008 Fall Fashion Week. Since I could make it to Fashion Week this year, I was only able to imbibe in the fashion madness via news accounts and the good ol’ ‘Net (mainly Style.com). Here are my fave picks of the runway thus far. Enjoy!

Vivienne Tam

Vivienne Tam’s collection was clearly influenced by peonies and an homage to the late Yves Saint Laurent. According to Style.com, “the YSL element could be seen in the tailored suiting options; the peonies could be seen everywhere.” The dress above is too unique–who else could could bring together plastic pink and peony petals? Loves it!

Herve Leger by Max Azaria

Herve Leger, famously, or infamously known for the bandage dresses (that every starlet, A-list celeb, and over 40 actress trying to reclaim her youth has put on in the past two years), had a Spring collection that can be described as “sex on heels”….take that! The bathing suit above is beyond fab…if you have absolutely no fat and are toned everywhere, you need to wear it…if you were single before, by the time you leave the beach/pool/resort, you’ll have many suitors following your footsteps…

Naeem Khan

Naeem Khan show can be summarized in two words: elegant simplicity. The free-flowing and clean silhouettes of the Spring 09 collection are refreshing and true to Naeem Khan’s style. I love the dress above–rich in color, wonderful silhouette, and interesting (but I hate the shoes!).

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren clearly was influenced by the North African safari. The runway was filled with “bronze or white linen suits worn with matching shirts and metallic ties” and “swaggering trenches in buttery leather and parachute silk.” Though parachute silk harem pants sound like and oxymoron, the look actually worked. After 41 years, Lauren is still on his game…

Zac Posen

Zac Posen overdosed on the fumes of the Bedazzler during the construction of his Spring 09 collection. Although the elaborate beading and embellishments are a great view, I couldn’t imagine how a fab diva could get through the day without losing a jeweled piece here or there. This dress was his best look–could you wear it?
Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg called her Spring 09 collection “Rock Goddess.” It actually was more of a hippie inspired collection with lush colors and bold prints. Although she is the wrap dress queen, she can still create awe and amazement with her stylish and chic designs.
Catherine Mandrino

Catherine Malandrino named her 10th year anniversary collection “Dawn.” This collection paid attention to the details with scalloped lace, appliquéd tulle, and quilted leather. I’m personally not a fan of the ultra-embellished garment, so this simplistic jumpsuit was my most fave.

Monique Lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier said “It’s about tropical-island getaway,” before her show. Known for her gorgeous wedding gowns, few know about the the tailored elegance of her non-wedding garments. Consider yourself informed!

Marchesa

Marchesa can be frequently seen on Hollywood’s elite on the red carpet. It is especially a favorite of Jennifer Lopez, who wears the dresses so well. According to Style.com, in collection had “a subtle thread of the Far East running through, seen most overtly in mandarin collars, an obi belt, and origami-like pleating.”

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham’s dress line is fierce! It is the hottest thing going in New York during Fashion Week. All of the dresses have a wonderful curvaceous silhouette and made for the woman who loooves dresses—myself included.
